What does this do? It holds a sponge!

Glue probably would have been just fine, but I cut tiny little housing datos anyway

I don't have a router small enough for this, so it fell to a bunch of sloppy chisel work.

Sanding:

Done!

I finished everything with tung oil (the first of many coats).

Drying oils are awesome. So awesome, in fact, that I talk about them in my book!
